Expanding Farm Income and Jobs by Utilizing Local Specialized Resources
Gongju City (Mayor Choi Won-chul) is drawing national attention as a success story for its Specialized Resource Convergence Technical Support Project, which has achieved high added value creation, increased farm income, and expanded job opportunities using local specialized resources.
This project was implemented to enhance the competitiveness of local farms by processing, commercializing, and diversifying sales channels for "Gongju Chestnuts," a local specialty. It is being evaluated as having significantly increased the added value of agriculture through a convergence strategy that integrates processing, experiential activities, and branding, moving beyond simple raw material sales.
The Gongju Agricultural Technology Center systematically supported technology transfers and independent development for subsidy recipients through the Specialized Resource Convergence Technical Support Project, resulting in the successful development and commercialization of 33 types of products.
As a result, some participating farms saw their sales increase by up to 800%, and meaningful achievements were recorded, including the creation of new jobs.

In particular, "Gongju Bamsong-i Bread" (Chestnut Burr Bread) has received an enthusiastic response from consumers since its launch, contributing to increased sales and employment expansion.
Furthermore, in cooperation with the Rural Development Administration and Korail Retail, the city achieved the feat of supplying chestnut paste to 15 Korail-managed cafes nationwide. "Gongju Chestnut Latte" and "Gongju Chestnut Matcha Latte," currently sold at railway station cafes, are receiving positive feedback from travelers and promoting the brand value of Gongju Chestnuts across the country.
In recognition of these achievements, Gongju City received the "Excellent Institution Award" in the national evaluation of rural resource projects and a commendation from the Governor of Chungcheongnam-do.
Mayor Choi Won-chul stated, "This project is an example of creating new added value in agriculture by utilizing local specialized resources. We will continue to expand the convergence model encompassing processing, distribution, and experiential activities to drive both increased farm income and the revitalization of the local economy."
